Hen-Wai Tsao (曹恆偉) received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. in 1975, 1978, and 1990, respectively. He joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University in 1978 and became a professor in 1991. His main research interests are broadband communication system, communication electronics, and electronic instrumentation. He is a member of the IEEE.

曹教授的主要研究領域為通信系統，通信電子電路，量測系統以及積體電路。在通信系統方面，主要為CDMA技術在光纖及無線通信領域的應用，在通信電子電路方面，主要包括多載波發射機線性化技術，Gigabit乙太網路電路技術；在量測系統方面，主要為高速、高精度的時間延遲及TDC技術；在積體電路方面，則為通信及量測電路的積體化。他也參與高速乙太網路封包交換器及被動乙太光網路中部份關鍵電路的設計及研製工作。
